Matthew Davis is an award-winning designer, engineer, artist, fabricator, and educator who has spent the past 20 years collaborating with talented artists and designers creating immersive kinetic environments, sculptures and products and is located in the greater New York area.
For larger projects, Matthew is typically brought on board to serve as a kinetic designer to help advance the top level creative vision of the project while also coordinating heavily with other team members such as lighting/video/structural/automation to ensure an exciting, reliable, and safe experience.
Articulated Artworks was created out of a need to find a way to execute projects with more modest budgets primarily for artists and designers. For these types of projects, AA will serve as a fabricator and installer to help execute the creative intent of the artist, while leveraging Matthew’s diverse design and engineering skills.
Since 2016, Matthew has been teaching a course in kinetic design at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture Preservation & Planning (GSAPP) that explores the design and engineering theories around incorporating movement into objects and environments.
