Introducing the Smell Synthesizer, a revolutionary machine where you can orchestrate scents as if playing a piano. Press a button and conjure the aroma of "maple," followed by the addition of "butter," and you've just crafted the essence of pancakes. With trillions of possible combinations, the olfactory creations are endless.
This innovative device allows users to blend up to 19 base scents, mimicking the smells of beloved foods with astonishing accuracy. Drawing inspiration from the sophisticated machines utilized by researchers at the Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia, the Smell Synthesizer is a cutting-edge tool for exploring the intricate world of smells.
Developed in collaboration with the Museum of Food & Drink and Dave Arnold, our team crafted both large-scale installations and portable versions of the Smell Synthesizer. From intricate cabinetry to precise 3D-printed components, each detail was meticulously designed to enhance the user experience. Recognized with two "editor’s choice" blue ribbons and three "best in class" red ribbons, at the World Maker Faire in 2017, the Smell Synthesizer stands as a testament to innovation in scent technology.
