Spinning Rods
Private Residence Commission - 2013
Artist - Chuck Hoberman
Role – Design & Engineering
In 2012, the architect and collector Ulises Liceaga approached Hoberman with a unique commission: to create a series of sculptures that defied convention and introduced something entirely novel. Fueled by this exciting opportunity, Hoberman embarked on a creative journey, ultimately pioneering a groundbreaking technique for crafting shape-shifting forms. The resulting sculptures consist of an arrangement of curved rods, each capable of rotating along its own axis, thus giving rise to a dynamic and ever-evolving volumetric structure. Seemingly simple yet profoundly captivating, this transformative experience evokes the natural process of metamorphosis and the mesmerizing visual effects witnessed in film (morphing).
These remarkable sculptures were showcased at the Chase Contemporary gallery in 2019.
